PlayStation Vita's firmware update 2.10 adding folders, enhanced video playback

Tired of all those messy icons cluttering up your PlayStation Vita’s home screen? Sony’s providing a solution in its next update, firmware version 2.10, which enables folders of up to 10 items to be organized on the screen. That means you could potentially take those 100 max applications allowed and stuff them all into folders on the home screen, effectively condensing your various home screens from 10 to one. The rest of the update isn’t so thrilling — namely, being able to identify which SD card you’ve got in the device, some email app enhancements, and video support which “allows you to play video within the browser.”

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Declassified PS Vita review

Firstly, I should point out this isn’t without its merits. Does that mean Declassified is good? Dear lord, no. Still, with typically guttural weapons, combat is meaty like a Rocky abattoir sparring session. It’s also not quite the ugly duckling that first footage hinted at.

Sure, the textures, art design or lightning aren’t going to set your Vita alight with sexy graphical pyro. But the game is at least commendably smooth and reasonably well detailed in places. Of course, any good work is instantly nuked into oblivion when you take into account there’s about an hour’s worth of single-player content on show.

Nope, my chipolata fingers didn’t accidentally miss out a number there. Declassified’s main campaign component can be rattled through in less than 60 minutes. Composed of ten missions (usually lasting less than five minutes), these Operation quests really do put the stingy vol-au-vent in bite-sized.

Partially inspired by Modern Warfare 2’s Spec Ops mode, the piddling shooty stages on display sadly lack the tactical nous and replayability that made Infinity Ward’s co-op treat such an unexpected hoot.

If you were expecting a shrunk down version of the ferocious futuristic campaign escapades seen in Black Ops II on PS3, you better check those expectations at the door. Actually, you better get security to strong arm them out of said door then chuck those hopeful little buggers into the nearest gutter.

PlayStation Vita gets PS Plus service

PlayStation Vita version 2.00 System Software Update brings PlayStation Plus to fans of portable gaming

Current PlayStation Plus Subscribers can now enjoy PlayStation®Plus exclusive benefits on their PlayStation Vita at no additional cost

London, 13th November, Today, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) announced that as part of the version 2.00 System Software Update for PlayStation®Vita (PS Vita), they will be bringing PlayStation®Plus (PS Plus), a subscription service package from PlayStation®Network, to PS Vita. Allowing fans to get even more from the world’s most powerful portable system the subscription service will be available on PS Vita from the 20th November and it will be available to existing PlayStation®3 (PS3)subscribers for no additional cost.

PS Plus offers subscribers even more with the release of PS Plus on PS Vita. As part of the Instant Game Collection, subscribers will be able to enjoy PS Vita titles including Uncharted: Golden Abyss™, Gravity Rush and Chronovolt. Members will have access to four games per month, as well as to a multitude of other perks such as free play, exclusive discounts and online storage.

PS3 fans can rest assured, if they’re already a PS3 owner with an existing PS Plus membership, they will be able to enjoy PS Plus features and services on both PS3 and PS Vita - at no extra cost.

The Instant Game Collection across both platforms means players will have a constant library of 14 games and at least five new games a month, which means over 65 games a year for PS3 and PS Vita. Gamers will also receive automatic updates with the service to ensure they are on top of the latest PS3 and PS Vita game and software updates.

Other cross platform benefits mean players can set their trophies and game saves to synchronise automatically, and access to online storage like never before will give fans up to 2GB of game saves online (1GB on PS3 and 1GB on PS Vita).

Commitment to PS Plus is also convenient with subscriptions ranging from 90 days for £11.99 / €14.99 and 365 days for £39.99 / €49.99. An annual subscription available for just €49.99 will give users access to 65 games and equates to a very reasonable €4 a month.
